Lecturers announce admission to an examination by means of a confirmation of attendance. In order to achieve the admission, students must fulfill certain performances during the semester.
Examinations may only be repeated once.
Examination Block: Compulsory courses are assessed in examination blocks. Blocks are evaluated based on the block average. In the event of an unsatisfactory average, all examinations within the block must be repeated.
Individual Examination: Most elective, focus specialization, and humanities courses are assessed in individual examinations. These examinations can take place as end-of-semester examinations or session examinations.
Session Examinations: Examination sessions occur twice a year, February/March and September/October. The Rectorate (Examination Office) is responsible for exam organization (enrollment and deregistration, as well as planning). Examination blocks occur during exam sessions.
End-of-Semester Examinations: End-of-semester examinations take place during the last two weeks of the relevant semester, and the two subsequent vacation weeks. The lecturers or the respective home department organize these examinations. Registration for examinations is via myStudies
The successful completion of first-year examinations, including one possible repetition, must occur within the first two years of study. The first sitting must be during the summer examination session immediately following the end of the first year, or at the latest during the following winter examination session.
With
the exception of first-year examinations, there are no examination deadlines.
Students may choose the order in which they take examination blocks. They are
strongly encouraged, however, to take the examinations immediately after having
attended the corresponding courses. The bachelor’s thesis may only be started
following successful completion of the first-year examinations, the additional
first-year courses and examination blocks 1 and 2. All examinations must be
passed within the duration allowed for the study programme in question.
