D-MAVT
In accordance with the regulation for doctoral studies good scientific qualifications are condition for the admission to the doctoral studies. D-MAVT examines all dossiers of the candidates who are admitted by the Rectorate provisionally.
If candidates don't fulfill the scientific qualifications, the Prorector recommends qualifying exams. The supervisor suggests the single qualifying exams according to the D-MAVT rules to the Doctoral Committee:
The doctorate committee checks the suggestions, allows/declines them and announces the decision to the Rectorate.
The qualifying exams are then clearly stated in the admission letter. If the one-year deadline cannot be met, your supervisor should send the Doctoral Administration an official extension request. If the deadline passes without a request, the student has failed the requirements.
It is important to inform the Doctoral Administration of the date you have scheduled in consultation with the examiner/examiners for your qualifying exam(s), to ensure that he/they receive the grading sheet in advance. The assessment of the qualifying exams is carried out with the grades 6 as the best grade to 1 as the worst grade. The qualifying exam is considered passed if in all partial exams at least the grade 4 was reached. Doctoral candidates have the possibility of repeating not passed partial exams as long as the supervisor agrees to a repetition. If you fail the exam twice, you will be exmatriculated and you cannot continue your doctoral studies. The exam results and the confirmation about the fulfillment of further qualifying exams have to be communicated to the Prorector for doctoral studies.
