Prof. Dr. Dimos Poulikakos (photo) was appointed president of the Scientific Advisory Board (WBR) of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences (SATW). Prof. Sotiris E. Pratsinis was appointed as "Einzelmitglied" (full memberships). Full Members are people who are particularly committed to the objectives of the Academy or the engineering sciences.

The Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering (D-MAVT) honors Mark Davis, professor for chemical Enginnering at the California Institute of Technology, with the annual Aurel Stodola Medal. He will visit Zurich and give a lecture about fighting cancer with nanoparticle medicines.

Small fish bend themselves into a ‘C’ shape before they flee from predators. Observations have suggested that this shape helps them to abruptly put the greatest distance possible between themselves and their predators. ETH researchers have now tested this hypothesis for the first time using a supercomputer.
