Professor Hans G. Hornung was awarded an honorary doctorate for his outstanding contribution to research in the area of the gas dynamics of high-speed flow. Supersonic flows occur in particular when spacecraft take off and land. the highest honor in the field of heat transfer. Since 1962 the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Institute of Chemical
Engineers award a distinguished scientist. |

Prof. Petros Koumoutsakos: Flow mediated interactions between two cylinders at finite Re numbers This
paper, listed in the Research Highlights of the Physics of Fluids,
examines the dramatic differences in the behavior of two interacting
bodies moving in a viscous fluids. The work helps understand problems
related to tandem swimming and fish schooling. |

structures. This method is fast, robust and affordable. Those
researchers plan a Spin-off now. |
An important step in the CO2 deposition is the underground
storing. Today the detailed geological knowledge is missing in
Switzerland. ETH researchers advocate for a national pilot project,

Jonas Buchli and Prof. George Haller, who change to D-MAVT. Prof. Jonas
Buchli (*1977) will be Assistant Professor (SNF) of Agile and Dexterous
Robotics, Prof. George Haller (*1965) Full Professor of Nonlinear

Davis, professor for chemical Enginnering at the California Institute of
Technology, with the annual Aurel Stodola Medal. He will visit Zurich
and give a lecture about fighting cancer with nanoparticle medicines. |

Small fish bend themselves into a ‘C’ shape before they flee from predators. Observations have suggested that this shape helps them to abruptly put the greatest distance possible between themselves and their predators. ETH researchers have now tested this hypothesis for the first time using a supercomputer. |

A new generation of flying robots is ready to take over: Applied with cameras and a mini computer on board, developed at D-MAVT at the Autonomous Systems Lab by Prof. Roland Siegwart, they are able to fly inside and outside. |
