This year the European Research Council (ERC) awarded five researchers at the ETH Zurich with the ERC Advanced Grant. Each researcher receives between 3 and 4 million Swiss Francs for their project. The ERC Advanced Grant is recognized as an outstanding achievement.

Professor Hans G. Hornung was awarded an honorary doctorate for his outstanding contribution to research in the area of the gas dynamics of high-speed flow. Supersonic flows occur in particular when spacecraft take off and land. From 1987 until 2003 Hans Hornung was the head of the Graduate Aeronautical Laboratories at Caltech in Pasadena and is a visiting professor in D-MAVT.
