Students in the Bachelor’s program must complete a compulsory period of workshop training outside ETH lasting at least five weeks. Students should achieve practical experience of the manufacture of components in a workshop, including an increased knowledge and understanding of materials and their practical, manual and automatic processing. It is recommended that the workshop training should be completed before starting to study or between the 1st and 2nd semester of the course. The contents of the training are recorded in detail in the Bachelor’s study guide.

A place for the workshop training can be found as follows:

  1. The student himself is looking for companies with polymechanic workshops or makes inquiries on the Homepage of Swissmem or the Homepage of Swissmechanic for suitable companies. Here you will find companies abroad (PDF, German), that offered workshop trainings in the past. Companies - in Switzerland or abroad - will be accepted when the conditions are fulfilled.
  2. The Internship Services D-MAVT helps arranging an internship. In a database (German) firms are listed which offer workshop traininigs. You will find further explanations in German if you open the database. By the way, we are always looking for new open positions. It is therefore worthwhile to have a look at the database from time to time.

Components of the workshop training are:

The activity report and the certification of internship have to be sent to the address below or be dropped into the mail box of the Student Administration.
