ETH Medal for outstanding doctoral thesis 2016

Seven outstanding dissertations at D-MAVT have been honored with the ETH Medal 2016 and a financial award. With great commitment, our talented postgraduate students concluded their doctoral theses successfully and are now ready for new challenges.

A dissertation brings a doctorate, the highest academic honor in Switzerland. In addition, the seven best doctoral theses were honored this year with the ETH Medal 2016. In the following, we would like to highlight the best dissertations:

Dr. Mark Wilfried Müller, former doctoral student with Prof. Raffaello D'Andrea, concluded his doctoral thesis with outstanding success on the topic “Increased autonomy for quadrocopter systems: trajectory generation, fail-safe strategies, and state estimation”.

Dr. Eirini Goudeli, former doctoral student with Prof. Sotiris E. Pratsinis, concluded her doctoral thesis with outstanding success on the topic “Multiscale Design of Aerosol Synthesis of Nanomaterials”.

Dr. Lisa Joss, former doctoral student with Prof. Marco Mazzotti, concluded her doctoral thesis with outstanding success on the topic “Optimal Design of Temperature Swing Adsorption Processes for the Capture of CO2 from Flue Gases”.

Dr. Stephan Josef Peter Kress, former doctoral student with Prof. David Norris, concluded his doctoral thesis with outstanding success on the topic “Quantum-Dot Plasmonic Waveguides, Resonators and Spasers”.

Dr. Ivo Matthias Leibacher, former doctoral student with Prof. Jürg Dual, concluded his doctoral thesis with outstanding success on the topic “Acoustophoresis of cells, core-shell particles, disks and droplets”.

Dr. Tanmoy Maitra, former doctoral student with Prof. Dimos Poulikakos, concluded his doctoral thesis with outstanding success on the topic “Droplet/surface interaction at conditions conducive to icing: Towards the nanoengineering of supericephobic surfaces”.

Dr. Arabella Diana Maria Mauri, former doctoral student with Prof. Edoardo Mazza, concluded her doctoral thesis with outstanding success on the topic “Multiscale Mechanical Behavior of Fetal Membranes”.
