The project name is “HARMoNIC”. It focuses on the optimization and application of hierarchically nanostructured surfaces for enhanced condensation processes. Such surfaces can be used to significantly improve efficiency in power generation processes as well as in fresh water harvesting from humid air in the atmosphere or through desalination processes.

According to Euresearch, this is the only project in the very competitive program “Future and Emerging Technologies” (FET) with a Swiss lead investigator, that is funded this year. Poulikakos collaborates for the project with the Max Planck Institute in Germany, the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Italy, the University College London and the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” in Greece. The project will start in October 2018 and has a duration of three years.
